The Chapter’s "Restore the Core" Campaign, along with the Club’s
regional campaign to fight suburban sprawl and support existing communities
began in 1997.
Principles for a livable city
Protect parks, rivers, and the natural environment
Encourage a diverse
mix of people, employment and services in all neighborhoods
Reward community
improvement and social investment
Provide for positive development around
public transit
Demand civic participation and government accountability
Promote the advantages of diversity, choice and convenience of urban life
Our goal is to guide development in the District that results in an environmentally
sound, sustainable community, whose people are empowered to effect positive
change relating to meaningful jobs, clean water and air, safe neighborhoods,
good schools, and access to rivers and green spaces. Our "Restore the
Core: Citizens Guide to Livable Washington, DC" provides useful information
on how YOU can take action to Restore the Core!
The regional campaign, for which the Virginia, Maryland and DC chapters have
joined forces, will continue with additional funding the national Club received
from a major donor. The three chapters’ primary focus for the spring
campaign will be on regional transit issues and how they relate to suburban
sprawl and community vitality.
