Chapter Makes Endorsement in D.C. Council At-Large Race
The D.C. Sierra Club endorses Republican Patrick Mara for the April 23, 2013 special election for D.C. Council At-Large
Patrick Mara has demonstrated a lifelong commitment to environmental progress. He agrees with the Sierra Club on every major environmental issue facing the District. He has a long employment history working on environmental issues. Mara worked for the late Senator John H. Chafee (R-RI) on the United States Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works. He also worked at the U.S. Department of Energy for the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy and at the Washington Office of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.
Mara has been a consultant to businesses focused on wind energy and recyclable building materials.
Mara is the only At-Large candidate with an educational background in environmental issues. He earned a B.S. in Environmental Science and Political Science from Marist College.
Mara does not own a car. As a Council member, Mara will primarily rely on Metro and the 64 bus to commute to and from the Wilson Building.
